The second installment of the Transtalkies of the academic year 2018-2019 was held on November 23, 2018. Transtalkies is a part of academic syllabus, where media students get a chance to watch movies from different genres and different languages which provides a learning experience in film studies and other aspects of media. The movie screened in the first session was a Marathi feature film ‘Court’ directed by Chaitanya Tamhane.The movie is a masterpiece of the director, it shows the harsh reality of the corrupt system in the most realistic way. The movie is about a social activist who uses folk music to spread his message is arrested, accused of inciting a sewage worker suicide. Lawyers from both sides of the aisle, and the rote ideologies they represent, are scrutinized as the trial plays out. The film shows how Indian value inheritances like casteism, regionalism, fatalism, etc. play out in a modern structure of legal rational courts of Justice, in specific and in criminal justice system, in general.

Chief Guest of the event was Dr Rajeev K (Dept of Sociology). After the screening   Dr Rajeev K had an interactive session with the students. He pointed out the relevance of the movie in the contemporary India. He also spoke about how the movie presented the hegemonic state and how director comprised different themes under judiciary. He discussed about the use of silence and multilingual in the movie. Students also shared their views and opinions on the film It was an enriching session in which everyone was immersed in providing their inputs.
